General Information

The Microarray facility offers complete sample processing services for select products for the Illumina BeadChip® platform. Please consult with the AGTC to determine the best product for your specific experiment.

Important Notice: Illumina has discontinued both Rat and Mouse whole-genome gene expression arrays. Effective December 9th, 2016, Human whole-genome expression arrays will also no longer be available. Core clients are encouraged to consider RNA-Seq as the alternative. The AGTC is exploring additional options for array users. Please contact us for more information.


Requesting Microarray Services in iLabs

All AGTC services must be requested in iLabs

If you need assistance registering with iLabs, please contact Ginette Borovicka.

Log in to iLabs and navigate to the AGTC core page. Select the AGTC Service Request tab. Please ensure that you are requesting services under the correct financial account information for your submission. Select Microarray, then select either Microarray Estimate for a cost estimate for future projects/grants, or Microarray Request for projects ready for submission. Use the "Project Description" window to enter the projects details (ie. type of sample, number of samples, array platform,  specific array product, etc.) Using the Upload button below the window, upload a full sample list or plate layout prepared in MS Excel. As a simple guideline, it is acceptable to label all sample tubes in numerical order, 1 to n, and indicate the corresponding proper sample ID in the sample list. When this process is complete, click save completed form.

Note: If your microarray project also requires RNA isolation and RNA quality assessment services, please include this information when entering project details in the "Project Description" window of the request form. For apprpriate sample requirements, refer to the RNA Isolation section.

Internal (WSU) Users: An estimated cost for requested services will be entered and submitted for your approval prior to sample submission. Once projected costs are approved by the researcher, the AGTC will initiate sample processing.

External Users: Following approval of the projected cost, a copy of a valid Purchase Order must be uploaded to your project page in iLabs before the AGTC will proceed with sample processing.

Sample Requirements

1 ug of purified total RNA in 20 ul of nuclease-free water is required for most microarray applications. Please consult the Microarray Department regarding alternatives.  Samples may be submitted in nuclease-free 0.5 ml or 1.5 ml microcentrifuge tubes, or in a properly sealed (PCR foil seals) 96-well PCR plate.

RNA samples must be stored at -80°C and transported to the AGTC on dry ice.


Turnaround Time

The microarray lab makes every effort to complete projects within 2 weeks of sample submission date. However, processing times will vary depending on current AGTC workload, project scope, array platform, and product availability.
